This teaching aquarium trained hundreds of volunteers and interns in skills ranging from basic animal husbandry to sophisticated behavioral modification and maintenance using positive reinforcement and operant conditioning over the course of 30 years under Dr. Jenifer Zeligs. Volunteers and interns gained hands on experience caring for a colony of unreleasable sea lions located previously at the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories Norte Campus. The staff, volunteers, and animals participated in ground breaking research, dozens of outreach programs to thousands of k-12 students and members of the public, and forged a new era of compassionate care in facilities all over the world.
