K-12 Programs

SLEWTHS is highly committed to quality marine, environmental, and science education at many learner levels. We offer formal curricularized half-day programs, personalized daylong internship experiences, and special events activities for K-12 age participants. In the year 2000 we developed our first formal K-12 program, Sea Lion Stewards, a half-day marine science experience catered to the age group of the participants. Students watch an educational demonstration with SLEWTHS sea lions and researchers and then do a beach-clean-up on Moss Landing Beach. This program is virtually free to participants and services around 1000 students per year! For young marine science or marine animal enthusiasts, SLEWTHS offers the once in a lifetime chance to spend a day as a member of our staff helping to care for and train our animals. These Junior Internships are a very unique way for young people to explore their marine interests in a hands-on personalized experience. SLEWTHS also offers special events experiences. We have hosted events for cancer and special needs organizations as well as birthday parties for parents who would like to offer a very unique educational and fun party environment for their children.
